Arts and cultural learning are more important than ever for the health of our communities and our society. Creativity is essential in a global economy that needs a workforce that is knowledgeable, imaginative and innovative.

Subject Content

The course is designed to build on experiences from KS3/4, developing skills across a variety of media. You are supported and encouraged throughout the course to enable you to grow with confidence and independence as an artist.

Within the initial induction period you will undertake a number of activities and workshops to broaden your skills and knowledge across of a variety of art techniques, before deciding upon a personally selected project theme to explore. You will research, investigate and develop ideas, using a variety of media and scale. Critical studies will inform your work, with artist ideas and techniques applied and explored towards a visual conclusion.

Exam Assessment

Coursework (Year 12 - 13):

60% of final grade

Induction project completed Sept-Nov to explore media and build skills & confidence.

Personal investigation project to include a written essay based upon artist research and own work. November Year 12 – January Year 13

Exam (Year 13):

40% of final grade

Exam papers issued in February

Approx. 8 topics to select from – ideas explored in class/private study over 8-10 weeks.

15hr (3 days) exam in May, Yr13 to complete final concluding piece to project.
